By Abiodun Alli

Thousands of youth in Lagos have declared their support for All the candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa and Babajide Sanwo-Olu

While Tinubu is the Presidential candidate of the APC in the 2023 general election, Dr. Obasa seeks reelection into the Lagos State  House of Assembly where he is the Speaker.

This was contained in a Press statement signed and made available to us on Saturday by romosele Ebhomele, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

At the rally organised by the Obasa Youth Crusade (OYC) on Saturday the youth also promised to support the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Idiat Oluranti-Adebule, senatorial candidate for Lagos West, Wale Ahmed, a House of Representatives candidate for Agege and Abdulkareem Jubril, candidate for Agege Constituency 2 at the State House of Assembly.

They vowed to ensure that Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party and others were woefully defeated in Lagos.

Addressing the crowd at the Agege Stadium, Lagos, Speaker Obasa who was impressed by the huge turn out of the youth for the rally which he described as first of its kind in the area urged them to sustain the tempo,

Obasa added that the passion showed by the youth and those who attended the rally was enough proof that the people of Lagos remained happy with the APC and its progress in the State.

According to him, even though the gathering was in his honour, the attendees must know that the bigger task was to work for Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu’s victory at the forthcoming election.

“Today you are here to talk about Obasa, but we have a bigger project and that is Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We have Asiwaju as the high-tension wire from which we all are connected. I promise that we will never disappoint you.

“We have provided jobs, thanks to our governor. In Agege today, we have almost all the roads tarred.
We have a governor that is well connected, capable to continue in office.

“In Tinubu, we have a leader who has the ingenuity of identifying capable hands irrespective of tribe and ethnicity. This has made Lagos a great state. It also shows that he will be beneficial to the country as President.

“We shouldn’t allow someone who only manipulates the internet to deceive the people. APC is the only party that will take us to the promised land and the only presidential candidate that can do it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu while the governorship candidate that can do it in Lagos is Sanwo-Olu,” Obasa said while tasking the crowd to vote for other candidates of the APC as they have shown experience and capacity.

Afolabi Ayantayo, a Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu, commended the youth for their zeal to ensure continuity in Lagos, urging them not to relent in their love for Tinubu and other candidates of the party.

Others who spoke at the rally included candidates Wale Ahmed and Abdulkareem, Abdulrazak Ajala of Odi Olowo LCDA who expressed hope that APC would be returned as the party of choice, and Abdulganiyu Obasa who affirmed that Agege had witnessed a lot of development and progress as a result of the residents’ love for the APC.

Highlights of the event were raffle draws where star winner, Sunday Grace, went home with ₦200,000. Entertainment was provided by musicians, including Adekunle Temitope, better known as Small Doctor.

In his remarks, Gbenga Abiola, convener of the group, promised that the OYC would continue to work hard ahead of the election.

By Stephanie Henry

“We have since concluded the admission process into our Colleges of Nursing Sciences which offer Basic Nursing and Midwifery programmes. Good enough, the successful candidates for the 2022/2023 session have settled down in their various classes.

“The general public should note that fraudsters are behind this late form being advertised in social media. The government will not be responsible in any way to whoever falls victims”, she said.

LALONG ADVISES TRADITIONAL RULERS TO SHUN PARTISAN POLITICS

By Sunday James

Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong has advised traditional rulers in the state to shun partisan politics and concentrate on uniting the people and sustaining peace in their domains.

Lalong who spoke during the installation and presentation of first class staff of office to Da John Putmang Hirse as the new Mishkaham Mwagavul, Mangu Local Government warned traditional rulers to shun politicians who want to use them to create division, acrimony and violence in their domains for their selfish political interests.

The event which took place at the Mangu mini stadium had in attendance dignitaries from all over the country including APC Vice Presidential running mate Senator Kashim Shettima, Yobe State Governor Maimala Buni, APC Deputy National Chairman Sen. Abubakar Kyari and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase among others.

Lalong, while congratulating the Miskaham Mwagavul for ascending the throne of his forefathers, said the new traditional traditional ruler has a very enviable record of service within his community, Plateau State and Nigeria which gives anticipation that he will excell in the onerous assignment.

He said “Let me advise His Royal Highness and all other traditional rulers to be careful of their conducts and utterances during the political season. You must remain apolitical and demonstrate that you are fathers to all. Resist every attempt by politicians to drag you into their scheming, maneuvering and desperation to get power using ethnicity, religion and other sentiments. Pray for them and admonish them to convince the people and play by the rules of the game. Anyone who chooses to leave his duty and dabble into politics will have himself to blame”.

The Governor said while his administration has no intention of imposing any traditional ruler on the people, it would logical to say that the Government was disappointed that the efforts to fill some vacant stools in the State were being frustrated due to lingering litigations among the Royal Class, promising to continue to do his best to ensure that where vacant stools existed necessary steps would taken to resolve the issues.

“I must remind you that, although I have no part in the emergence of any traditional ruler, I have a duty and powers to remove anyone found to be working against the interest of the people or the State. Those who are privileged to occupy these positions must carry out their assignments based on trust and transparency. No traditional ruler should be a tyrant to his people to take sides with those who are working against the welfare and well-being of the people” he said.

The Mishkaham Mwaghavul Mwaghavul Da John Putmang Hirse in his acceptance speech said he was privileged and honoured to be enthroned as the ruler of his people who were known for hardwork, unity and peaceful coexistence.

He thanked the Governor for allowing the process of his emergence to be free and fair, and for making sure the will of the king maker’s prevailed.

In a goodwill message, APC Vice Presidential running mate Senator Kashim Shettima congratulated the Mishkaham Mwaghavul and said the Kanuri people shared historical ties with the Mwaghavul people well documented and cherished.

He wished him well and assured him of the support and prayers of the people of Borno and Yobe States.

COCIN Vice President Rev. Dr. Timothy Nwan prayed for the new traditional ruler and committed his reign to God. Various District Heads, title holders as well as leaders of resident ethnic groups in the Chiefdom paid homage to the Miskaham Mwagavul.

ABIODUN WARNS NIGERIANS AGAINST REMARKS CAPABLE OF CAUSING CRISES

By Olufemilade Oyinade

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has warned Nigerians to desist from using inflammatory words capable of aggravating the current situation in the country.

He opined that it is only in the atmosphere of peace, harmony and tranquility that the country could attain the desired development and growth.

Abiodun made this call on Saturday while speaking at the Leadership Capacity Building Conference of the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigeria Pentecost Fellowship (PFN), held at the Fellowship Secretariat, Kobape, Abeokuta.

He stressed that it was imperative for Nigerians to continue to see themselves as one and pray for the nation to overcome her challenges.

The governor noted that the theme of the Conference, “The Throne of Grace, Building of Nations Through the Church”, was appropriate especially at this time when Nigeria is experiencing insecurity and several other challenges.

“As individual citizens, we have to be patriotic in our utterances and deeds. It is important for all of us to desist from using inflammatory words which are capable of aggravating the situation. Let us continue to build bridges instead of fences.

“Nigeria is faced with lots of challenges like insecurity issue, the exchange rate and others that have affected our economy. All these create uncertainty and have effects on our psychic”, he noted.

He described the church as one of the institutions that have played vital roles in educating, enlightening and embarking on citizens’ orientation of their civic duties as patriotic citizens, saying that it was important for Nigerians to be mindful of the type of leaders they choose in the forthcoming elections, as it would have impact on their well-being.

“Leadership is a dynamic revolutionary process of influencing behaviour which means influencing the actions of others towards a shared purpose. It is about character, influence, integrity and positive impact made on the lead.

“We must choose leaders that will impart on our lives and that of the next generation. We all have individual and collective roles to play for the development of our State, nation and humanity”, the governor emphasized.

While enumerating some of his administration’s achievements, he maintained that policies and programmes that would increase the prosperity of the people, would be formulated and implemented, just as his government remained unwavering in building the future of the state as encapsulated in the ISEYA Agenda.

Abiodun who reiterated that the state remained the religious capital of the nation, enjoined the church to seek better understanding amongst members and position its future development within the broader spectrum of the society.

“Be proactive, Concentrate on positive ideals, virtues and values as the basis for Godly generation that we all need not only in the war against our nation’s challenges, but also for the survival of humanity”, he concluded.

In his sermon titled “What Grace can Do”, the General Overseer of Agape Ministry, Apostle Felix Adejumo, said grace could multiply efforts and make room for an individual to be at the top.

Adejumo noted that grace would not abandon anybody but individual must make use of his or her brain to work, and study more to make it in life.

The Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, Apostle Ahmed Otaru said the meeting was to impart positively on leaders for effective administration of the church.

HAALAND FIRES MAN CITY TO THE TOP OF EPL TABLE

By Olamide Yinusa

Erling Haaland fired Manchester City to the top of the Premier League as the champions recovered from Joao Cancelo’s dismissal to clinch a last-gasp 2-1 win against Fulham, while Leeds staged a stirring fightback to beat Bournemouth 4-3 on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side led through Julian Alvarez’s first half goal at the Etihad Stadium.

Fulham equalised before the interval when Andreas Pereira converted a penalty awarded for Cancelo’s foul on Harry Wilson, with the City left-back sent off much to Guardiola’s visible disgust.

But Haaland was the hero yet again after missing City’s last two matches due to illness and a foot problem.

On as a substitute, Haaland scored a stoppage-time penalty to notch his 23rd goal in 16 competitive City appearances since his close-season move from Borussia Dortmund.

City’s seventh successive home league win lifted them one point above previous leaders Arsenal, who can go back to the top of the table with a win at London rivals Chelsea on Sunday.

Alvarez opened the scoring after 17 minutes, racing onto a fine through ball from Ilkay Gundogan and firing in a powerful shot off the underside of the crossbar.

But 11 minutes later Cancelo barged Wilson off the ball as the Fulham winger broke though on goal.

Darren England brandished a red card and Fulham midfielder Pereira, formerly of City’s arch rivals Manchester United, sent Ederson the wrong way with his spot-kick.

However, Haaland came on with half an hour left and turned the tide in City’s favour when Antonee Robinson fouled Kevin De Bruyne in the 90th minute and conceded a penalty which Haaland fired past Bernd Leno.

Crysencio Summerville starred for Leeds as they came back from 3-1 down at Elland Road. Summerville was Leeds’ match-winner in last week’s shock victory at Liverpool and he followed it up with another crucial strike that clinched successive wins for Jesse Marsch’s side.

Bournemouth led 2-1 at the break after James Tavernier and Philip Billing had cancelled out Rodrigo’s early penalty.

Dominic Solanke put the Cherries further ahead early in the second half but Sam Greenwood curled home Leeds’ second and Liam Cooper headed them level before Summerville slammed home the winner with six minutes remaining.

Brighton rock Wolves
Brighton beat Wolves 3-2 at Molineux just hours after the struggling hosts appointed Julen Lopetegui as their new manager.

Former Real Madrid boss Lopetegui, hired to replace the sacked Bruno Lage, will take charge on November 14, when the Premier League pauses for the World Cup.

Interim boss Steve Davis remained in charge against the Seagulls and couldn’t stop second bottom Wolves crashing to a fourth defeat in six games.

Adam Lallana gave Brighton a 10th-minute lead when he curled in his first goal since March 2021.

Goncalo Guedes levelled two minutes later from close-range and Ruben Neves put Wolves ahead with a 35th minute penalty after Lewis Dunk was ruled to have handled.

It was the first time Wolves had scored twice in a Premier League game this season.

Japan winger Kaoru Mitoma equalised for Brighton when he nodded in Lallana’s deep cross in the 44th minute.

Wolves defender Nelson Semedo was sent off five minutes into first-half stoppage-time after hauling down Mitoma.

And Mitoma set up Pascal Gross to blast into the roof of the net as Brighton stole the points in the 83rd minute.

Bottom-of-the-table Nottingham Forest drew 2-2 with Brentford at the City Ground thanks to a stoppage-time own goal from Mathias Jorgensen.

Morgan Gibbs-White scored his first goal for Forest in the 20th minute, but Brentford equalised in first-half stoppage time after referee Andre Marriner awarded a penalty following a check on the pitchside monitor.

Marriner originally decided that Dean Henderson had not fouled Yoane Wissa but changed his mind and Bryan Mbeumo scored from the spot.

Brentford took the lead with 16 minutes left but Gibbs-White’s effort went in off Jorgensen in the final seconds.
