The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has vehemently condemned violence against any gender.
IGP Baba stated this on Thursday December 8, 2022 when he hosted the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dame Pauline Kedem Tallen at the Force Headquarters, Abuja as part of the activities marking the 16th day of activism against Gender-based violence and violence against children which commenced on November 26, 2022 and would run until 10th of December, 2022.
A statement signed by the Force Spokesperson, CSP Olumuyiwa adejobi, stated the IGP emphasized the need for all structures in the criminal justice system of the country to synergize to stamp out all forms of violence against all genders, particularly women and children who are mostly victims of violent acts perpetrated through the criminal conduct of others.
The Minister commended the IGP for his love and support towards women and children which she said have been evident in salient policies and actions of the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership.
The ‘Colour-me-Orange’ team who accompanied the Honourable Minister joined her in decorating the IGP as an Orange Ambassador in the cause against gender-based violence.
The Inspector-General of Police on his part assured the Honourable Minister and her team of his commitment to sustaining the fight against perpetrators of gender-based violence.
The IGP equally re-emphasized the establishment of gender desks across the country and assured that the Police would not treat cases of gender-based violence with levity under his watch.

Pele, 82, according a local newspaper, was admitted to hospital on Tuesday to re-evaluate his cancer treatment and was later diagnosed with a respiratory infection, according to medical reports.
His manager and the Albert Einstein Hospital, in Sao Paulo did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
A medical report released on Friday said Pele had an adequate response to an antibiotic treatment and was in a stable condition “with general improvement in health status”.
He had a tumor removed from his colon in September 2021, and has been receiving hospital treatment on a regular basis.
It was reported that chemotherapy had been suspended and that Pele was under palliative care, and being treated only for symptoms such as pain and shortness of breathe.
The newspaper also said he had a general swelling and cardiac issues when admitted to hospital earlier this week, as previously reported by ESPN Brasil.
Pele had said in an Instagram post on Thursday that he was at the hospital for a “monthly visit” and thanked his supporters for the positive messages he had received.
The former Brazil, Santos and New York Cosmos striker’s face was projected on a building in Qatar with the message, “Get well soon”.
A sign with the same message was displayed by Brazilian fans at the Lusail Stadium last Friday ahead of the national team’s 1-0 defeat against Cameroon.
Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Coordinator, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Executive Governor of Ogun State will be performing the commissioning of the Ogun State Campaign Secretariat and the unveiling of the Campaign Council for the 2023 general elections.
According to a Press release signed by Tunde Oladunjoye, Publicity Secretary of APC, Ogun State, the event will take place on Saturday, 10th December, 2022 at the new secretariat opposite the Governor’s office Oke- Mosan.
“The State Campaign Secretariat will serve as the coordinating point for all APC 2023 general elections’ candidates”, the statement added.
Nigerian singer, Oladapo Oyebanji, popularly known as D’banj, has called on the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to carry out its investigation thoroughly while urging the general public to resist the urge to buy into media sensationalism.
He lamented that the media has been awash with reports of him being in ICPC’s custody concerning unestablished allegations of fraud.
“I Have NO Contractual or Incidental Relationship with any Group or Persons Within or Outside Government – Dbanj Speaks”, he stated.
He said it had become crucial to make a statement for clarity and to set public records straight.

Recalled that ICPC on Wednesday confirmed the arrest and detention of D’Banj over the investigation of fraud associated with the N-Power Programme. However, D’banj said he has no contractual or incidental relationship whatsoever with any group or persons within or outside the Government.
Part of the statement read: “It is instructive to state foremost that the report concerning the arrest and detention of Mr Daniel Oladapo Oyebanjo is misconceived, malicious and prejudicial to the justice system anywhere in the world, and we would advise that the general public be well guided.
“For the record, D’banj has no such contractual or incidental relationship whatsoever with any group or persons within or outside the Government in relation to the disbursement, operations, access or control of the operation of any government fund through an agency or its subsidiaries.
“D’banj has enjoined the Commission to carry out its investigation thoroughly to ensure that characters attempting to bring him into such ridiculous activities must be brought to book.
The President, Association of Resident Doctors, Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Dr. Bukola Oluseun has said that the Association would continue to honour the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi for his exemplary fatherly role in the area.

Stakeholders commend Lagos Assembly over bill, make contributions

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, on Wednesday said Lagos deserved a law on surrogacy, human fertilisation and other related areas.
This was contained in a statement signed and released on Wednesday by Eromosele Ebhomele, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Dr. Obasa said this during a stakeholders’ meeting on a bill for a law to regulate human fertilisation and surrogacy procedure and practice.
While seeking to provide a legal framework for regulating surrogacy in the State, the bill further seeks to prohibit certain practices in connection with embryos and gametes.
Represented by Hon. Desmond Elliot, a lawmaker at the House, Speaker Obasa noted that the proposed law would give a ‘human face’ to the practice by experts in the field and add to the advancement of Lagos.
“Lagos State has consistently grown since 1999 when we birthed the current democracy. Today, we remain proud to say that we are in a State that has become a good example to others in terms of governance, advancement in thoughts and actions and good leadership.
“The bill being discussed today is another example of good thinking and effective leadership,” the Speaker said.
He promised that the opinions and contributions of the stakeholders including those from the Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) sector would be considered by the House in passing the bill.
Noting that the bill would address the controversies and litigations associated with surrogacy and related matters in the society, the chairman of the Committee on Health Services, Hon. Sokunle Hakeem, urged the stakeholders to submit memoranda that would help the passage of the bill into law.
Giving a general overview of the bill, Hon. Victor Akande, chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions and LASIEC said the proposed law was to help ensure that surrogacy is practised responsibly and in accordance with the law.
In his contribution, Emeritus Prof. Osato Ona Frank Giwa-Osagie, founder of OMNI Medical Clinic and expert in In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), urged the House to ensure that a comprehensive legislation about Assisted Reproductive Technology to make for effective enforcement.
He applauded Lagos for being a leading state in the health sector in Nigeria.
He also implored the House to incorporate the regulations of Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) into the bill.
Congratulating the House Committee on Health Services for the effort, he appealed to the House to incorporate professionals, especially where technicalities arise in the consideration of the bill.
On his part, Prof. Oladapo Ashiru, Secretary-General of the International Federation of Fertility Societies (IFFS) and President of the Academy of Medicine Specialities of Nigeria, also urged the House to bridge the laws from HEFAMAA to create an enabling surrogacy law.
The founder of Met Surrogate Mothers Agency, Mrs. Olaronke Thaddeus, suggested that the bill should include surrogacy agencies as the latter are the registered practitioners that connect intending parents to surrogate candidates.
Highlighting that the rights of women and children must be protected as they are the key candidates in surrogacy, Dr. Ivie Omoruyi of the Blossom & Oasis RHS, opined that children and women must be factored in the bill.
Contributing also, Mrs. Ogunmade Ty-Lolu, CEO, Precious Conceptions and beneficiary of surrogacy, who shared the depressing and traumatic experience she had for 13 years before going for surrogacy in India, suggestee that the five-year limit before couples can engage in surrogacy be expunged from the bill.
She also spoke on the importance of considering the society as surrogacy is not just for experts and practitioners, but for the society.
While commending the participants, Hon. Adebisi Yusuff, a member of the House, stated that the laws of the Lagos Assembly gives the State the legislative backing it needs to be better.
Speaking at the meeting, the Clerk of the House, Barr. Olalekan Onafeko, noted: “We have one of the best parliamentary system in Africa and our laws have been requested and replicated even by some countries. We should be proud of this advancement and be certain that the inputs and memorandum you (the stakeholders) have submitted today will be considered in the bill.”
Commending the House, Prof. Ashiru assured that the society of Assisted Reproductive Technology, are anxious for the passage of the bill with their contributions included.
He promised to support its engagement and enforcement.
The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) have arrested members of Notorious Gang suspected to be robbing and terrorizing Abule-Oko, Agbado, Olaogun, Ijoko Communities in Ifo Local Government Area in Ogun State.

Ganzallo stressed further that ‘this deadly team had been on the black list of the agency for years back and efforts had been put in place to ensure they are sent parking from Ogun state for peace to reign.
However, Ganzallo said that the gang of criminals at about 2030hrs on Friday, 2nd. December, 2022 allegedly shot 3 persons who are now receiving treatment at undisclosed hospital and this triggered investigation into the deadly attacks and prompted the action taken by the Super Operation Team of Agbado-Ibaragun Area Command under ACC Olaiya Akeem to arrest and bring them to book.
Ganzallo noted that the Officers of the Corps intensified effort and got the suspect apprehended while peace has been restored to the concerned communities.

On the plan of her administration to reposition the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Mrs Boye informed that working towards building a befitting Secretariat for the Chapter would be top on the priority, while resuscitation of the annual Colloquium as well as the “Image Maker”, the NIPR professional publication are also to be given priorities.
Also to be expected, according to her is the automation of the process of registration as well as enhancing visibility through the creation of website among others.
Earlier, the immediate past Chairman of the Chapter, Mr Lekan Togunwa also called on Campaign Managers to imbibe PR education and orientation.
This, he noted, would moderate activities of political candidates and voters to have a free and credible elections in 2023, maintaining that PR is of a divine philosophy and value.
The Registrar of the Institute, Mr. Olukayode Yeku, while admonishing the new leadership, told them they had a lot of work to do and that they should strive not to end up as an endangered species.
Sammy Ogunjimi has been appointed as the new Chairman of Royal Initiative for the Development of Sagamu Community (RIDSCo) by His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland who is also the Chairman, Ogun State Council of Obas.
RIDSCo was established in 1998 by late Oba Michael Adeniyi Sonariwo, Erinjugbo II, Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo for the purpose of harnessing the support of the West African Portland Cement Company (now Lafarge-WAPCO Plc) for sustainable community development projects.
RIDSCo was once headed by Asiwaju Solomon Kayode Onafowokan, before passing the mantle of its leadership to Omooba Olotu Oyedele, the immediate past Chairman.

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday, remanded 57-year-old medical doctor of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, Dr Olufemi Olaleye over alleged defilement of his wife’s 15-year-old niece.
The court remanded him after it took his plea on a two count charge bordering on the defilement of a child and sexual assault by penetration preferred against him by the Lagos State Government.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him and was granted bail of N50m with two sureties in like sum.
