By Bisade Ojoye

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has increased the quarterly payment of outstanding gratuities from N500million to N600million, for both the Local and State Pensioners, making a total of N3.6BN paid since March, 2021.

The increment was in fulfilment of the promise made by the Governor to hike the gratuity, to cater for the welfare and wellbeing of the senior citizens who served the State diligently.

Speaking during the disbursement of the gratuity at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Mrs. Olubukola Adeniregun stated that the present administration realised the enormous needs of the senior citizens.

Adeniregun pointed out that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government had from the 1st-3rd quarter 2022 a total number of 237 Local Government Pensioners had benefited from the quarterly disbursement of gratuity.

On her part the Director, Contributory Pension in the Bureau of State Pensions, Mrs. Mojisola Okpandu disclosed that the government had released funds for payment to those scheduled for July, 2014 and part of Basic, Rents and Transports (BRT) for December, 2012.

Mrs. Okpandu stated that the present administration would continue to honour and respect senior citizens by paying their entitlements as promised, appreciating the Governor Abiodun for his fulfilment.

She urged the pensioners that have yet to receive theirs to be patient with the administration as it would soon get to their turn.

In their separate remarks, the Chairmen, Local Government Pensioners Association of Nigeria (LOGPAN) and Association of Retired Primary School Teachers Ogun State (ARPSTOS), Pastor Benedict Ademoye and Mr. Zacheaus Adekoya respectively, commended the Governor for the step, pleading that the State government should ensure the continuous and steady disbursement of gratuity.

Some of the beneficiaries praised the Governor for increasing the gratuity to N600million and the payment of the monthly pensions as and when due, while appealing to him to continue his good work
