OGUN GOVT. NGO BOOST WOMEN SKILLS ON ICT

The Ogun State Government and a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), ASPILOS Foundation have commenced another 5-months free Information Communication and Technology (ICT) training for women, towards digitally empowering them.

The training which was tagged “Become A Female Tech Creator”, according to the Press Officer, Bureau of Information Technology (BIT), Mrs. Olayinka Ezema, is ongoing at Ogun TechHub in Abeokuta where participants would be trained from a zero knowledge of computer to becoming a technology creator, as well as boosting their talents in digital economy.

It would be recalled that in the year 2020, Ogun State Government collaborated with ASPILOS Foundation to put up a female coding programme called ABOCODERS purposely to develop the talents of women in ICT which had produced more than 100 female coders working with government and private firms.

Speaking, Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT, Mr. Dayo Abiodun, said the on-going training was the 5th of its kind, where women were given free and thorough knowledge in data science, web-development, web-design among others, so as to boost their skills technologically.

 Abiodun said the present administration in the state was determined to create enabling environment for women in terms of developing their skills in ICT, take them from the scratch to point of becoming an independent coder, IT solutions developers, so as to get first paid employment, noting that the door is still open for others to join the training.

Speaking on behalf of other participants, Mrs Badmus Aishat appreciated the state government for the free life changing opportunity, saying the training class was eighty percent practical which would have been unaffordable out there.

13TH BOLA TINUBU COLLOQUIUM TO EXAMINE NEW WORLD ORDER, GOOD GOVERNANCE

Organisers of the annual Bola Tinubu Colloquium have announced that this year’s edition will examine emerging global development issues and the importance of good governance for Nigeria to be an influential and respected member of the international community.

The colloquium, which is in its 13th edition, will take place on Tuesday 29th March 2022, at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. It will be presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari as Chairman. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu is the chief host.

Professor Olufemi Bamiro, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, the keynote speaker, is expected to engage the central theme, ‘Pivoting Nigeria into the new world order: Imperatives of Good Governance’

A press statement signed by the Chairman of the Media and Publicity sub-committee, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, stated that the colloquium will also feature a panel session where some of Nigeria’s leading technology entrepreneurs will discuss “Technology, Entrepreneurship and the future of work”.

The panel discussion to be moderated by Tomilayo Akanni-Aluko will have Bosun Tijani, Chief Executive Officer of Co-Creation Hub, as the Lead Discussant. Other panelists include Samson Ogbole, Managing Director, Soiless Farms, Temie Giwa-Tubosun, Group Chief Executive, Life Bank, Kikelomo Fola-Ogunniya, Co-founder, Jand2Gidi and Lot Madaki, Chief Executive Officer, Madaki Shoes.

Speaking on the theme of the colloquium and the planning, Omotoso noted that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the man in whose honour the annual event is being organised, is an extraordinary statesman who has committed himself to making Nigeria one of the most prosperous nations.

His words: “The theme speaks to the person and values of Asiwaju Tinubu. To celebrate his 70th birthday, this year’s colloquium theme is most appropriate. We are talking about an outstanding public servant, who is an advocate of good governance in Nigeria and Africa. He demonstrated this as Governor of Lagos in eight years where he laid the solid foundation for the progress and prosperity of Lagos State that we all talk about today.”

ABIODUN APPOINTS WAHEED ADESINA, 6 OTHER PERMANENT SECRETARIES, ACCOUNTANT GENERAL, SOLICITOR GENERAL

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has approved the appointment of eight new Permanent Secretaries and a new Accountant General for the State.

A statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin said “the new appointees will fill the existing vacancies among the rank of Permanent Secretaries in the State Public Service.

“Seniority, merit, professionalism and inclusiveness are considered in the appointment of the Permanent Secretaries and the Accountant General for the State in the exercise of the Governor’s power under the provision of Section 208 (c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended)”.

The new Permanent Secretaries are:

i. Mr. Waheed Adesina;
ii. Mr. Adetayo Adewale;
iii. Mr. Adedayo Oluyemi Somoye;
iv. Mr. Oluwaseyi Sokoya;
v. Dr Qudus Adegboyega Yusuf;
vi. Mr. Adenopo Adegbenga; and
vii. Dr. Oladeinde Moshood Kayode.

The statement noted that Messrs Adebayo Bamidele and Mr. Aregbesola Thomas Babatunde would function as the State’s new Solicitor General and Accountant General respectively.

While congratulating the new appointees, Governor Abiodun urged them to brace up for the challenges of their positions and apply themselves diligently to the “Building Our Future Together” Agenda of the Administration.

HERBAL ACCEPTABILITY: OGUN ORGANISES ORIENTATION FOR FIRST BATCH HERBALISTS

In order to promote efficiency, regulate the herbal practice and ensure the standard that would further increase herbal acceptability among the people, the Ogun State Government has organised an orientation programme for herbalists across the State.

According to Dolapo Jinad, Press Officer, Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board, the Chairman, Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board, Balogun Nurudeen Olaleye, while declaring open the orientation course and certification programme at Igbodu, Onifa Egba, Kobiti, Abeokuta, said membership registration was essential for herbalists in the State, calling on them to register with the government and undergo necessary orientation courses.

‘’It is not enough for one to have knowledge of herbal practice alone without learning modern methods and ensuring hygienic practice that is key in promoting herbal medicine all over the world’’, he remarked.

The Board Chairman maintained that they should abide by the modern ways in their practice and be familiar with the rules guiding the sub-sector, noting that it deals with human life, which must be protected by the government’s rules and regulations.

Olaleye said the present administration recognised the importance of the Alternate Medicine practitioners and considered them as an important force that must be reckoned with, which according to him, led to the creation of Alternate Medicine Board.

He appealed to those who were yet to register with the Board to do so without delay as the Board would soon embark on full enforcement across the State, sounding a word of caution to practitioners not to be caught involved in evil acts as the Board would deregister any member caught it the act, and hand over such practitioner to the law enforcement agency for prosecution.

” I am particularly happy with the way you have been comporting yourselves and the turnout of the registration is encouraging. Members have a lot to benefit from this registration because the government understands the technical position of your sector which is very delicate’’, Olaleye said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Oluwo Ifa Ogun State, Chief Ifashola Anipupo, applauded the gesture of the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Board members and management for their wonderful performance on strategic ways they have been conducting the board’s activities.

Chief Anipupo assured that in no short time, all herbal doctors in the State would be fully registered, assuring that no member would be found wanting of any sharp practices. He called on the government and other stakeholders to continue to support and help them with new ideas that would further develop the traditional heritage.

SAGAMU LG CHAIRMAN PROPOSES N3.578BN FOR 2022 BUDGET

The Chairman, Sagamu Local Government, Hon. Jubril Odulate has presented the Sum of N3.578bn for the year 2022 budget.

Odulate, while presenting the budget tagged: “Budget of Accelerated Development” at the conference room of the council, said the bill was drafted with the aim of achieving the State government’s ‘Building our Future Together’ agenda, adding that it would also cushion the economic instability experienced by the people of the Local Government, especially in the area of infrastructural development.

He explained that the proposed budget would aid the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), saying that with the support of the legislative council and career officers, the LGA would be able to carry out enormous and development-oriented task that would have direct effect on the people.

In his response, the Leader of the House, Hon. Ojuroye Ayodele explained that the bill has captured the major needs of the grassroots dwellers, adding that the projects and programmes highlighted were in line with the ‘ISEYA’ mantra of Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration.

He assured the Chairman that the bill would be given a speedy passage into law for the people to enjoy more dividends of democracy.

OGSG CLAMPS DOWN ON OVER 32 UNAPPROVED BUILDINGS

No fewer than 32 buildings have been sealed off by the Ogun State Government in Isheri, Ifo Local government Area of the State for violating various building regulations.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL. Olatunji Odunlami disclosed during an interview with OGIS correspondent in Abeokuta, saying most of the buildings were either without planning permit or built beyond approval.

Odunlami maintained that obtaining a planning permit before commencing construction is not negotiable, as the present administration was determined to ensure that the State is safe, orderly, livable, and business-friendly.

“No building is allowed to spring up in Ogun State without obtaining planning permission and comply with the State building laws”, he said.

He urged all property owners, developers and other stakeholders in the built sector to ensure that they obtain a building permit and produce it when demanded by officials of the Ministry and its agencies, adding that non-availability of the permit would lead to sealing of the property, while the owner would be made to face the law.

The Commissioner also warned property owners and all concerned to desist from breaking the government seals, warning that placement of seals on buildings, be it residential or commercial means the owner must have contravened the law after necessary notices had been served.

In his remark, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Tunde Olugbewesa advised property owners to cooperate with the government in its aim of achieving a safe and secure environment.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has yes recorded another first as he was being decorated as the First Serving Governor to become Grand Patron of Ogun Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, OGUNCCIMA

Performing the decoration held at a special ceremony during the week, the first female President of the Chamber, Chief Mrs. Alaba Lawson poured encomium on the Governor for being resourceful.

The entrepreneur who is the proprietress of Alaba Lawson Group of Schools, Abeokuta and the Iyalode of Yoruba land expressed satisfaction while decorating the Governor, noting that it was pleasing seeing him record the feat that earned him this first and prayed to God to continue to guard and guide as he continue to man the ship of the state.

BREAKING GENDER INEQUALITY, A COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY – OGUN DEP. GOV.

Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has tasked all and sundry to work towards breaking all forms of discrimination against women and increasing their representation in governance.

Salako-Oyedele who stated this in Ijebu-Ode during the 2022 ‘International Women’s Day (IWD) organised by City of Knowledge Academy with the theme, “Break the Bias”, noted that a gender-equal world, free of biases against women requires a collective responsibility of everyone.

She added that discrimination against women had existed for so long and would not disappear by wishful thinking, waving a magic wand, or celebrating IWD, but rather, through a general change in attitude and mindset.

“Imagine a gender-equal world, free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive, where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality and collectively we can all Break the Bias. Similarly, stereotypical gender roles, such as men being the ‘provider’ or ‘protector’ of the family, puts an unnecessary burden on men, which can positively be shared in an equal partnership with their female counterparts”, the Deputy Governor opined.

Also speaking, Chairman, Access Bank, Dr. (Mrs.) Josephine Awosika said there must be equity in gender, noting that most advanced countries have better women representations, which had helped in developing their countries.

Awosika noted that society is lagging because it deprives its women of gender variety, adding that gender equality goes beyond building women, but it is about building the nation.

CASES OF INDISCIPLINE IN SCHOOLS HAVE REDUCED – Ogun COMMISSIONER

Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu has affirmed that cases of all forms of indiscipline have drastically reduced in schools, while learning activities are on course without any disruption, as a result of the signing of undertaking forms by parents, guardians and learners and other measures put in place by the government.

Prof. Arigbabu disclosed this during the commissioning and handing over of science laboratories and other projects by the Old Students’ Association of Ilugun Central Academy, Atan in Ijebu North-East, to commemorate its 50th Founder’s Day Anniversary.

The Commissioner said the measures had curbed acts of hooliganism, thuggery, lateness, irregularity in attendance of learners, examination malpractices, among others, saying appropriate sanction awaits any learner that deviates.

He said that the Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration is working hard to revitalise education in the State, saying efforts are in top gear to launch Education Intervention Fund to upgrade schools at all levels.

“The era of manual administration in the education sector is gone in the State. We have digitalised our process of transfer, Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) registration, screening of students into flagship schools, and so on. In fact, Ogun is the first State in the country to introduce e-dossier, once you open the column on the ogsera platform, type the learner’s identification number, then, you can view the student’s result”, Prof. Arigbabu said

Arigbabu noted that the huge investment of the government in public schools had yielded positive results, particularly in National competitions, adding that the outcome of the last JETS Competition reflected that the State won 18 out of 24 medals, expressing gratitude towards the donations by the Association and assured that government would not relent in creating conducive atmospheres in schools.

Speaking, the President of the Association, Ogbeni Tunde Shittu said the support was part of the Association’s mandate to complement the government’s efforts and to enable students to excel in their studies, especially in science subjects.

TESCOM TRAINS PRINCIPALS ON STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION, OTHERS

Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Ogun State has trained 503 principals across the four divisions of the State for better management and quality delivery of an impact full education system in the public secondary schools.

The Chairman, TESCOM, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede declaring open the training tagged” Upskilling: Critical Measures in Critical Times” in Abeokuta said the training was put together for all principals in Remo, Ijebu, Yewa, and Egba Divisions on strategic measures to make school environments conducive for teachers and students while carrying out their roles.

He said the training was necessitated putting into consideration the rate at which parents and students beat up teachers in the school premises, adding that in the present time school administrators need to know ways of communicating with the students strategically, without stress, and leadership styles needed to acquire for better management of secondary schools.

Also speaking, the Chairman Training Committee, who also double as Commissioner III in the Commission, Hon. Olanrenwaju Majekodunmi attributed lack of home training on the part of the students to their unruly behavior, saying the training would re-engineer and put to shape the communication skill between the school administrators and the students.

Majekodunmi commended the present administration for approving the training, expressing hope that training for vice principals, teaching, and non-teaching staff across the State would also get the approval of the Governor.

In their presentations, the facilitators, Bishop Olufemi Jesunaike, Dr. Solomon Sokunbi, and Dr. (Mrs.) Toyin Makinde informed Principals to leave legacies worthy of emulation for their subordinates and consistently monitor their health, in order to achieve optimal goals in their careers.

The facilitators emphasised the need to deploy subtle strategies in handling staff under their purviews, as it would foster accelerated success in their various assignments.

Speaking, President, All Nigeria Confederation of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Ogun State Chapter, Dr. (Mrs.) Ayodele Womiloju said the training was apt, considering the rate at which students are putting up intolerable behavior.

ABIODUN WINS VANGUARD’S 2021 BEST GOVERNOR OF THE YEAR

The Ogun State State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has been nominated as the Best Governor of the Year 2021 by the Vanguard Newspaper in appreciation of his efforts in rebranding the State.

Speaking after presenting the letter of nomination to the governor in his office at Oke-Mosan Abeokuta, the Deputy Editor of the Newspaper, Mr. Adekunle Adekoya, said the Award is in recognition of what the administration has achieved using the Infrastructure, Social wellbeing, Education, Youth Development and Empowerment and Agriculture (ISEYA) in the last three years.

According to Adekoya, “this Award did not come as a surprise. It is something we do in the Vanguard. It takes us four months of intense deliberation by looking at all indices before we give the Award to anybody.

“Governor Abiodun through ISEYA has transformed the State through the provision of good road network. Worthy of mention is the ongoing construction of the Atan-Lusada-Agbara road which would not only serve the companies operating there and the people. The Ijebu-Ode-Epe road would serve all Nigerians as it would save them the trouble of using the ever busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway”.

He commended the governor for dousing the political temperature of the State following the runoff to the 2019 elections, adding that peace is needed for any meaningful development in any society.

Responding, Governor Abiodun thanked the media house for the recognition, noting that the administration since inception was committed to the development of the state through the provision of necessary infrastructural amenities to attract more investment and also make life better for the people of the State.

Governor abiodun explained that in the last 31 months, government has performed creditably in every sphere of the state’s economy through the implementation of policies that make the state to be a hub of investors.

According to the governor, “as part of efforts aimed at improving the transportation sector, Ogun and Lagos state governments have opened discussions on how to extend the ongoing construction of blue and red line of the light rail to connect some parts of the state especially from Alagbado to Kajola and Okokomaiko to Agbara Industrial Estate in order to fast track the movement of people and goods across the state.

He appreciated the media house for digging into the activities of his administration since inception, saying that the award would serve as a begining of a new relationship and spur his team to do more, calling on the newspaper to help in spreading the activities of his government to the people.

Describing Vanguard Newspaper as one of the most reliable in the country for being factual and authoritative, governor Abiodun assured that his administration would continue to collaborate with the newspaper in its determination “to building the future of the state together”.
