OPAYEMI IS A PROFICIENT MANAGER OF MEN AND MATERIALS – Prince Shodiya

Architect Owodunni Opayemi

By Olufemilade Oyinade

One of the governorship aspirants on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), Architect Owodunni Opayemi has been described as a proficient manager of men and materials, adding that he would bring his proficiency to bear in his administration of Ogun State, if given the opportunity to govern the state.

This was disclosed to the Media by one of his associates, Prince Adekunle Shodiya who urged the people of the state to give him their mandate so that he could fix the exigent needs of the people in terms of provision of infrastructural facilities and wellbeing of the people.

Shodiya disclosed that since he met Architect Opayemi, over a decade ago, he had never had any reasons to doubt his integrity, because according to him Opayemi had touched so many lives, in terms of financial assistance, provision of employment opportunities. ” I will tell you, Opeyemi is generous to a fault. The only thing that a lot of people do not understand about him is that he hates lies. He hates to be lied to. Once he established the genuineness of a demand, he would not hesitate to give a hand”.

Prince Shodiya described Opayemi as one individual seasoned with politics, having been involved in it a long time ago, disclosing that after Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s administration succeeded the government of Aremo Segun Osoba, Architect Opayemi, as it were, virtually inherited the whole following Chief Osoba had.

“Besides that Architect Opayemi has been sponsoring or contributing to many candidates from Ogun State, Oyo State and others in the country for a number of elective positions, and many of them held and still holding sway in their positions. The list include state Governors, Senators, Members of House of Representatives, etcetera”.

He said, thumbing his chest, “Architect Opayemi counts what counts in life. He believes in the postulate, ‘live and let’s live’, he prioritises the wellbeing of the people. He believes ‘common wealth of the people must be administered consciously for the benefit of the generality of the people. As he relates amorously to people of his immediate community, in Remo, so also he cultivates and hub nub with many associates, acquaintances from other parts of the state, whether in his chosen profession -Architecture, businesses or political connects. He is indeed a bridge-builder of sorts”.

Prince Shodiya opined that Opayemi has been ennobled by his sincerity and thoroughness in handling responsibilities, adding that his no is no and his yes means yes, adding that his assiduousness recommends him high in his drive to govern Ogun State, because according to him, “a vote for Opayemi is a vote for rejuvenation of the hitherto untapped resources of the state. His people-oriented developmental acumen will logically reawaken the tired investment clusters, and also bring about an improved standard of living for the people; the youth, the aged, men and women, multinational, local manufacturing companies as well as the small scale entrepreneurs”, he stressed.

He described Architect Owodunni as an example of what he called, “Omoluabi” a Yoruba word for a dependable and honourable person on the grounds that, ‘he is a man of his words’. He confidently said, “if he makes a promise to you, you can go to be, because he would not disappoint you; and if you tell him something he knows he cannot do, he will tell you straight. I believe he has been engreatened by his uncommon virtue of sincerity. The people of the state should trust him with their votes. He lives by his words.

“What also makes him the best choice for the governorship of Ogun State is the fact that he is a team player, a good listener, an accommodating leader, a goal-getter as well as a forward-looking investor.

ABIODUN COMMISSIONS PANSHEKE-ADIGBE-OPAKO ROAD

…asks residents to take ownership of road

By Bisade Ojoye

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, on Tuesday, officially inaugurated the 3km Panseke-Adigbe-Opako Road within the Abeokuta metropolis.

The road which traverses Abekouta South, Obafemi-Owode and Ewekoro LG, was one one the roads started but abandoned by the immediate past administration in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony at the popular Panseke Junction, Abiodun described the event as symbolic, as the road was one of the inherited road projects from his predecessor’s administration.

He further described the project as fulfilment of his administration’s promise to the people of Ogun state.

“This road has a history. It was started on December, 2018. That makes it one of the inherited projects from the immediate past administration. At the inception of our Administration, and, in our usual methodical, strategic and inclusive approach, we inaugurated a committee to consider the status and viability of these inherited projects. Then, I made a promise to the good people of Ogun State that we will complete all inherited projects that have direct bearing on the development of our dear State. Here we are! We are fulfilling our promises.

“Since 29th May, 2019, our dear State has witnessed a new vista in infrastructural development. We thank God that we are here gathered today not only to commission this road, but to fulfil the promise made. This is to show that our words are our bond with the people of Ogun State”, the governor noted.

Abiodun explained that the 3km road is particularly of economic importance as it traverses three Local Government Areas and also provides a viable bye pass to the busy Ita-Oshin-Lafenwa end of the Abeokuta-Ifo-Sango-Lagos expressway through Obada Oko.

He added that, “on the micro level, this road is an added infrastructure and adds to the aesthetics of this area. It has a reinforced concrete median, a carriage width of 8m in each direction, and reinforced concrete drain and walkway.

“More than that, its benefits on the macro level are far greater. It is no doubt an added advantage to the successful implementation of our Transport Master Plan, especially the road transportation aspect of our multi-modal transport agenda.
This road will all boost our transportation development plan for Abeokuta as one of our fastest growing cities. As we look forward to expanding the scope of coverage of the Bus Mass Transit Scheme, the kinds of this road will make the plan easier”, Abiodun stated.

The governor noted that the people have been enjoying the benefits of the road before the official commissioning, pointing out such underlined the fact that his government is more committed to the provision of amenities that make life easier to the people than the pomp and pegeantry.

While expressing elation that “Building our Future Together” Agenda of his administration for the continued development of Ogun has continued to receive both state and nation-wide acknowledgement, Abiodun reiterated that he would not make any promise he never wished to fulfill, said efforts were being intensified towards ensuring reconstruction of other major roads, just as new ones were being constructed for a wholesome development of Ogun State.

“In fact, we are still looking forward to how to handle some major roads such as Sagamu/Ogijo/Ikorodu road; Abeokuta/Ifo/Sango/Lagos road and other Federal roads across our major cities. In fact, we cannot take full advantage of this particular road without having the Abeokuta/Ifo/Sango/Lagos in good condition.

“Let me also take this opportunity to plead that the Federal Government to consider the plea of our two states of Ogun and Lagos that the Federal Government should consider the release and prompt approval for the reconstruction of those roads. The fact is that the argument that some roads are Federal Road, as valid as it is, offers little comfort because there are no Federal citizens. Our people hardly make distinctions on the ownership of road infrastructure. In fact, they often associate States with the particular roads they ply. And, they situate their pains on particular roads with geo-space. All they want and deserve is good governance.

“On this, our administration will continue to do more for the individual prosperity of our people and development of our dear State. Let me reassure that our Administration is irrevocably committed to a continuous provision of infrastructure and security in all parts of our dear State. In this regard, the roads leading to our farm settlements, rural areas and township roads, in general, will continue to receive utmost attention to facilitate even socio-economic development of all parts of our dear State. All these will enhance our job creation, poverty alleviation and food security programme”, the governor said.

Abiodun, therefore, charged the people in Ogun State, especially the residents of Panseke-Adigbe-Opako axis, to take ownership of the road and other projects that his administration has continued to provide across the state.

“You are to protect them as they are truly yours. By doing this, you will not only partner in the successful implementation of our Administration’s “Building our Future Together” Agenda, but also in creating a viable economy for our dear state”, he noted.

While acknowledging the dedication and cooperation of all those behind the successful completion of the project, the governor sought the people’s continued support for his administration in the drive to provide more infrastructure to the benefits of all by paying their taxes and other levies regularly as and when due.

OYO POLICE REVEAL HOW ISLAMIC CLERIC KILLS A WOMAN, SEVERE THE BODY FOR RITUALS

By Our Correspondent

The Oyo State command of Nigeria Police on Tuesday gave an account of how an Alfa, Tiamiyu Abass, allegedly dismembered a hairdresser, identified only as Barakat, in Oyetoro community, in the Oyo West Local Government Area of the state. The police also recovered the victim’s body parts.

We gathered that residents had been suspecting Abass’ suspicious activities after he moved into the community about two years ago.

Narrating how the whole crime was carried out, it was gathered that on Sunday, May 15, members of the community were said to have perceived an offensive odour, which they traced to the suspect’s house where the mutilated remains of Barakat were later found.

A resident, Mr Siyanbola Akinkunmi, revealed that the suspect, after he was caught, confessed to killing the hairdresser.

He said, “When the body was discovered, all fingers pointed toward Abass. A community meeting was held later that evening and everyone was on the lookout for him.

“Around 11pm, the door of his apartment opened and he came out with a nylon bag. A young boy confronted him and alerted other community members. When the nylon bag was searched, substances suspected to be human brains were discovered inside.”

Abass fled, but was pursued and caught by residents and was taken to his room, where more human parts, including a female head, were found.

Our correspondent learnt that Barakat’s body was later identified by her husband and sister.

Her husband was said to have two weeks’ earlier reported to the Amotekun Corps in the town that his wife went missing.

Another eyewitness, Hammid Oyekola, who also shared the incident on Facebook, said the suspect was in police custody.

“The police chained him to their bus. When he was later taken back home for searching, they found some skulls in his room,” he added.

The Divisional Police Officer, Atiba Police Division, CSP Olasunkanmi Musiliu, confirmed the incident to our correspondent, adding that the case had been transferred to the Iyaganku police divisional headquarters for further investigation.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, in a statement on Tuesday, confirmed the incident.

He said, “On May 15, 2022 around 6.30pm, one Oyerinde Gbadegein reported at the Atiba Divisional Police Headquarters that around 1pm of the same day, a corpse was seen dumped by the side of a stream on Jibola Afonja Street, Oyo town.

“On receipt of the complaint, a team of detectives from the Atiba division swung into action and proceeded to the scene. It was discovered that the corpse was that of a lady of about 25 years packed in a sack bag, which was already decomposing with the head, hands, toes and flesh from the thigh cut off from the body. One Alfa Tiamiyu Abass was arrested in connection with the case.

“Upon interrogation, the said Alfa Tiamiyu Abass confessed to have killed the deceased, one Barakat, who happened to be his customer. He stated further that he and one Qudus, now at large, perpetrated the act. A search was conducted in his house and all the parts removed from the deceased’s body were recovered. However, investigation is ongoing to arrest the said Qudus for possible prosecution.”

SHIFT IN DATES OF PRIMARIES: DELTA PDP COMMENDS ASPIRANTS, LEADERS, DELEGATES

By Tolulope Odugbemi

The Delta State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olorogun, Barr. Kingsley Esiso has commended all aspirants seeking the party’s ticket for the various elective positions for their understanding, doggedness, faith, steadfastness, and support for the party even in the face of unforeseen circumstances that have made shifts in primary dates unavoidable.

The Chairman in a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza also applauded party leaders, delegates, members, supporters, and faithful at all levels for displaying exceptional love for the PDP by remaining firm and unwavering in their belief in the PDP despite the inconveniences caused to them by the rescheduled dates of the primaries.

Olorogun Esiso noted that the shifts became inevitable.  “I believe that what matters most to us in PDP is the conduct of free, fair, and creditable primaries where persons that will fly the party’s flag at the 2023 general elections will emerge in a transparent way that is devoid of acrimony. The resultant peace and harmony will create the bonding and strength of unity and purpose needed across our party circles when we face our real opponents at the general elections.

The Chairman, therefore, reiterated his call for discipline, peace, and harmony to be maintained across board during and after the primaries when the PDP flag bearers would have emerged, and that aspirants and their supporters must continue to conduct their campaigns with decorum and decency.

“Aspirants must see themselves as good sportsmen and women on the field while campaigning for the votes of delegates, see their fellow contestants as internal opponents and not deserving of hard and pugnacious tackles,” the Chairman said.

He wished the various contestants well at the primaries.

I AM SET TO LEAD A PEOPLE-ORIENTED GOVERNMENT IN OGUN – Opayemi

By Olufemilade Oyinade

Architech Owodunni Opayemi has declared that he was prepared to lead a people-oriented government in Ogun State and therefore called on the people to support his candidature.

He made this statement today, Tuesday, May 17, 2022 during the declaration of his intention to contest for the governorship of Ogun State on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC)

He stated, “Today, I am presenting myself to all Ogun State citizens and declaring to offer myself in the service of our people. I know a few things are being done, but there is a lot more that can be done to bring genuine prosperity to our people. Therefore, we need to open the new page in our search for good governance”

Architect Opayemi opined that 2023 should start a significant and positive turnaround for the fortunes of the people of Ogun State; open a new page, a new chapter for economic prosperity, and I am prepared to lead in that direction.

He said, “the key to our people’s happiness and holistic wellbeing is good governance, marked by leadership that listens to them. connects with them, shares in their pains and joys. I am a Yoruba man, and our people believe that“You cannot shave a person’s head in his absence.”

Opa explained that one could not provide good governance when isolated from the people that one governed. ‘How will you know where the shoe pinches? How will you know about their most pressing needs and demands when they cannot reach you? It is only when you walk barefoot in the sun that you know where the ground is hot’, he stressed.

Opa declared the mission of his government would include amongst others:

A. Human Capital Development
*Education: Quality and purposeful. This will involve curriculum adjustment to meet modern needs and changing employment environment. Purposeful towards reorientation of values and moral standards.

*Employment: Industrial and Commercial Agriculture with all the attendant value chains shall be used as economic drivers in all parts of Ogun State simultaneously.

  • Empowerment: Ogun State Citizens will be trained and retrained on acquired skills so that they can compete effectively in a changing world; new skill in high demands shall also be introduced and encouraged with the support of government.
  • Social Welfare: an acceptable social welfare scheme that involves improved remuneration for critical stakeholders, pensioners, the aged, and traditional institutions
  • Workers Welfare: Not‘ minimum wage’ but living wage. Our administration proposes workers’ participation. A government should not wait for when workers strike to negotiate. Organised labour will be called to submit proposals and ideas on how much is or can be the appropriate minimum as a “living wage” for an average worker. Such proposals will also include advice on how government can generate the alternative internal income to meet such obligations outside the Federal Allocation, without putting more tax burdens on the citizens.

B. Infrastructure Development:
Community Development Associations and CDC will actively be involved in the choice of projects that could have immediate and direct impacts on their communities. Projects will be equitably distributed across Ogun State.

C. Social Services

  • Health Care: by providing quality and affordable Health care system for the citizens through partnerships and talent resource management.
  • Improved waste, sewage and sanitisation management system. waste and recycling management systems will be explored in line with global best practices.

Architect Owodunni Opayemi full speech read:

Being the Speech of Architect Owodunni Opayemi, FNIA during his official declaration to contest for the Office of the Governor of Ogun State on the Platform of the All ProgressiveCongress (APC) on Wednesday, 17th day of May, 2022.

Fellow Citizens and Compatriots!
Leaders, Stakeholders and Members of our great Political party.
My Lords Spiritual and Temporal,
Gentlemen of the Press!

My name is Owodunni Opayemi, a trained architect, a proud citizen of Ogun State living with you for several years. I am a distinguished member and proud Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architecture (FNIA). I am from Ikenne Remo in Ikenne Local Government Council Area of Ogun State.

A few days ago, I started the first phase of my journey towards serving the people of Ogun State as their Governor by purchasing, filling and submitting my Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms at the National Secretariat of our great party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) .

I also visited the State Secretariat of our great party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abeokuta, to inform our party leaders and members of my intention to present myself as a candidate for the office of the Governor of Ogun State under the platform of APC in the 2023 elections. Two days ago, in continuation of this process, I was also at the National Headquarters of our party for the screening exercise.

Today, I am presenting myself to all Ogun State citizens and declaring to offer myself in the service of our people. I know a few things are being done, but there is a lot more that can be done to bring genuine prosperity to our people. Therefore, we need to open the new page in our search for good governance.

A new Chapter of our Nation’s history was opened in 1953 when Pa Anthony Enahoro moved the motion for Nigeria’s Independence on the floor of the Western House of Assembly, the liberation was not delayed in coming seven years later; a New Page was opened for Nigeria in 1963 when our country became a Republic, finally relieving itself of all vestiges of colonialism; it was a New Experience for Nigerians in 1983 when a military coup-de-tat truncated our Second Republic; and 1993 marked a watershed in the democratic experience of Nigeria with the annulment of what was widely acclaimed to be the fairest in all our elections. All these years have been greatly significant in Nigeria’s political evolution and history.

2023 should start a significant and positive turnaround for the fortunes of the people of Ogun State. The year should open a new page, a new chapter for economic prosperity, and I am prepared to lead in that direction. The key to our people’s happiness and hollistic wellbeing is good governance marked by leadership that listens to them. connects with them, shares in their pains and joys. I am a Yoruba man, and our people believe that“You cannot shave a person’s head in his absence.” Thus, you cannot provide good governance when you isolate yourself from the people that you govern. How will you know where the shoe pinches? How will you know about their most pressing needs and demands when they cannot reach you? It is only when you walk barefoot in the sun that you know where the ground is hot.

I am in this race to win on behalf of the citizens of Ogun State, to take back their government and hand it over to them, and not just for a few. I am running to win and make sure that our people have direct say in how their government works; every project must be connected to the employments of our idle youths and the empowerment of our helpless citizens. We need to re-think the future of our children in Ogun State; we need to recreate a future with hope for our abundant talents; we need to redefine the concept of leadership away from the Circus or “fashion show” but as a concrete commitment towards impacting positively on the lives of the greatest number of people and for their greatest happiness.

Our Mission in government will be:

  • Workers Welfare: Not‘minimum wage’ but living wage.

Creation of Ogun Border Town Development Agency (OGTDA): to concentrate on the development of Arepo, Alagbole, Akute, Ifo, Sango and other areas of the state that borders Lagos, Oyo, Ondo and Osun. The Agency will be private sector driven with a development portfolio of N200 billion.

Administration

  • Independence of legislative and judiciary arms of government
  • Local government council autonomy as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
  • Separation of the executive power of the Governor from the Political Party Administration. The political party shall have supremacy over matters of the party without or with absolute less interference.
  • Respect for the Basic and all fundamental human rights of Ogun State citizens as enshrined in the laws of the FRN

-Participatory Democracy: we shall run an all-inclusive, participatory and accessible government. Policy formulation, implementation and execution shall take inputs from the youth, women, workers, artisans, professional associations and bodies.

Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished citizens of Ogun State, I present myself before you today as a candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) aspiring to the office of the Governor of Ogun State in the 2023 general elections.

I humbly request for the support of leaders and members of our party in the Primaries. Posterity has bestowed on them the historic responsibility of giving Ogun State and its citizens the good leader who can, who will and who is ready to listen to them, the kind of leader which they deserve in 2023, kindly use your vote wisely. There is Vacancy in Oke-Mosan in 2023, so I say, “Here I am, Send Me”.

I have great assurance that after the primaries, the entire voters in Ogun State also will know and ultimately decide on how to cast their votes wisely for Owodunni Opayemi, the APC candidate in the final ballots in the 2023 elections.

I thank you all.

Arc Owodunni Opayemi, FNIA
