The states also agreed to inaugurate a high-level Joint Security Committee to focus on and proactively address security matters along the boundary communities and interstate roads, to enhance security between them.
Reading from a communiqué jointly signed by Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun and his Oyo state counterpart, Seyi Makinde, after the inaugural joint security meeting on Wednesday, in Abeokuta, Abiodun said that membership of the Joint Border Security Task Force would be drawn from various security agencies in the two states, to patrol the border communities.

Ogun State Government has said that any learner without 70 percent attendance in public schools would be debarred from writing any form of examination.
Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu made this known during a visit to Abeokuta Girls Grammar School, Onikolobo, noting that the step would tremendously curb absenteeism in schools.
The Commissioner who posited that the measure would reduce misdemeanor in schools advised learners to shun behaviours that would bring shame to their family, school and the State, revealing that no private school would be allowed to admit anyone expelled from government schools.
“Absenteeism of learners in schools is worrisome to us as government, this we believe is also part of the behavior that we frown at. We have therefore ensured digitalisation of names of our learners, which will make it impossible for anyone that does not record 70 percent attendance to sit for any examination”, he warned
Arigbabu disclosed that the learners of the school suspended for misconduct had been allowed to resume school after undergoing a series of counseling and manual labour.
Earlier in her remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye who said the erring learners had been rehabilitated accordingly, advised others not to stigmatise or abuse them, charging the learners to face their studies and shun acts that could undermine or destroy their future.
Responding, the Principal of the Senior School, Mrs. Tolulope Fasanya, appreciated the government for rehabilitating and re-integrating the girls back to school, promising that such an incident would not repeat itself.
Traditional Believers have appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to exercise restrain in the implementation of the just signed Obaship law in the State saying its full implementation might have consequences on the people and the towns.
The Traditionalists made the appeal at a press conference held Tuesday at Ori Omi, Oke Sokori, Abeokuta as part of activities marking this year’s Annual Prayer for Ogun State organised by them.
Addressing the Press, Oba Ifarotimi Balogun, who is the Olu-Isese worldwide, stated that Yoruba culture has helped to sustain the land from complete foreign invasion and cultural annihilation, advising Gov Abiodun not to see traditional worship as evil or an uncivilized practice.
According to the new law, Obas can now be installed or buried according to their faith instead of the traditional rites by traditionalists in the affected communities.
Ifarotimi appealed, ” for this not to befall our cherished cultural values and tradition in Ogun State, we are passionately appealing on behalf of Oduduwa our father, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Enitan; Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Alake of Egbaland and my humble self, Oba Ifarotimi Adifagbola Balogun, the Olu-Isese worldwide, that our dear Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, should kindly put a hold on the strategic and delicate part on the process of king making, burial and chieftaincy title conferment.”
According to Adifagbola, the processes of installation and burial of an Oba “are customarily being handled by our custodians of culture and tradition.”
“We want to appeal to our people in Ogun state and Africa in general not to see traditional worship as evil and uncivilized practice. Our culture, as a matter of fact is sacrosanct and it has helped to preserve the peoples identity and sustained the land from complete foreign invasion and cultural annihilation.
All our efforts and commitment should be seen as a service for the wellbeing of our state and government should not be misconstrued or misinformed about what the traditionalists and tradition itself stand for in the state.
The fact remains that any attempt to disdain or disrepute the very core values of our tradition as enshrined by the Traditional institution which has galvanized our peaceful existence till now might dealt a big blow on our core history as a people and throw our core values into completely oblivion in 21st Century.
For this not to befall our cherished cultural values and tradition in Ogun State, we are passionately appealing on behalf of Oduduwa our father, the Ooni of Ile -ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Alake ti Ile Egba and my humble Self, Oba Ifarotimi Adifagbola Balogun , the Olu-Isese world-wide, Forisha Gbade the first that our dear Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR should kindly put on hold the strategic and delicate part of the process of king making , burial and Chieftaincy title confirmment, and that the Governor should please approve and declare a day holiday for Traditional Worshippers in the state just as it was done in other southwestern States so as to publicise our native days and calendar year for posterity sake.
Mr.Governor Sir, let me kindly inform you that we hold the largest population all over the world and settled at a very Strategic Political path of every State, we desire that you give us a day holiday in a whole year by your adminstration. This gesture will go along way at establishing your good will for the wellbeing and prosperity of the people of Ogun State. And this will not be forgotten by the generation yet unborn than making new laws and procesures of processing the burials of Traditional Rulers: new law on King making and Chieftaincy title that are customarily being handled by our custodians of culture and traditions.
Your Excellency Sir, we understand that we are in a modern age and you are trying to modernize our culture in line with the civilized society among other things that you could lay your hands on while in office but Sir, we humbly wish to remind you that not all that pertain to tradition and culture can be changed without its implications, particularly the underlining factor that it might result to stripping off our traditional Rulers’ values and reduce their Traditional power, values, respect and honour among others as embedded in the traditional protocols which can brew attendant consequences upon a town.
All the members of the Isese kingdom of Truth Cultural heritage: Traditional believers and Worshippers World-wide, appreciate our Governor’s giant strandes and steps at improving our traditional heritage, especially with the creation of the State Alternate Medicine Board ,under the Chairmanship of Balogun Nurudeen Olaleye, the first Alawo-Erin of Egbaland, a man with leadership acumen to handle and sanitize the sub-sector towards successfully achieving the purpose of establishing the Board.
Our Royal father’s need to do more to protect our heritage that is now going into extinction while the western world are making good money from our very dynamic tradition to develop their country. This is the right time for all us to go back to the basis of our roots and find out what we all have at home. Findings showed that there is no Family without one or two deities that they believe and worship only that today we all claim to be civilized and see their worship as barbaric.
One of the painful challenges today that our children, due to lack of knowledge and proper awareness have mixed up rituals with religious activities, but there is a clear distinction between the two which require adequate information so as not to continue to confuse generation yet unborn.
African religious belief is not a matter of adherence to a doctrine but concerned with supporting fecundity and sustaining the African community with religions emphasis at maintaining a harmonious relationship with the divine powers and their rituals attempt to harness cosmic powers and channel them for good.
Ritual is the means by which a person negotiates relationships with other members of the community, with the ancestors, with the spiritual forces of nature, and with the gods.
The cults of the divinities are visible in many shrines and altars consecrated in their honour. Shrines and altars are generally not imposing or even permanent structures and can be as insubstantial as a small marker in a private courtyard.
The Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Seye Oladejo, on Tuesday said that Sen. Bola Tinubu remained a man to beat in 2023 Presidential Election.
Oladejo in a statement in Lagos took a swipe at those attacking the APC leader and former Lagos State Governor over his ambition to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari come May 29, 2023.
The APC spokesman said that allegations and blackmail over Tinubu’s source of wealth, education qualification and age, were unjustifiable because they remained accusations without substantive facts, challenging those against Tinubu to be democratic and lay facts at the table rather than resorting to blackmail
He said “it is very interesting that those in opposition suddenly have access to Asiwaju’s medical record and they have become the authority on his state of health.
“Tinubu’s movement to different parts of the country in the last few months showed that he is medically fit.”
The APC chieftain said that Tinubu should be commended for making his recent knee surgery public despite being a private citizen.
He added that since the APC leader returned from his foreign medical trip and had been moving from one place to the other.
Speaking about the controversy trailing Tinubu’s age from some quarters, Oladejo said there was nothing hidden about the former Lagos State governor’s age.
Reacting to issues surrounding Tinubu’s source of wealth, Oladejo said: “Tinubu’s wealth could not be measured in monetary value, and in terms of Naira and Kobo but by his goodwill arising from his leadership acumen, consideration for others and investment in other people
“His wealth should be measured by the goodwill and image he has by building men and women who are willing to play their parts at a time like this, saying these people are spread all over Nigerian nation.
He said Tinubu had the required qualifications to be President of Nigeria based on constitutional provisions, which stipulated that anybody running for the presidency must be 35 years old, be a card-carrying member of a political party and must be sponsored by a political party.
Oladejo said that Tinubu was eminently qualified to be Nigeria’s President because of the confidence people have in him having distinguished himself during his eight years as governor of Lagos State as well as contributions to national politics in the last three decades.
The APC Spokesman stated that Tinubu would never say no to the millions of Nigerians who have been urging him to contest as over 1,800 groups across the country were already clamoring for his candidature.
Oladejo said: “We are excited about Tinubu’s aspiration because for once we have someone who is aspiring, who is a willing aspirant and that he was not being forced upon others or the people to run for presidency come 2023.
He opined Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu was well-grounded and over time, he has built a whole lot of goodwill and image across the country and across various ethnic nationalities.
He various issues, such as economy, security, education, good health, among others in the country, called for individual who possessed the leadership profile such as Tinubu to govern the country, adding that he was optimistic he would perform excellently.
“The opposition will have their say but people will have their way,” he said.
Oladejo said the decision of Tinubu to contest for the presidency was already giving a lot of people sleepless nights, especially those who were interested in the presidency.
The APC spokesman expressed confidence that Asiwaju Tinubu would defeat aspirants from South-West and other parts of the country during the APC presidential primaries and general elections.
