As days and months are counting, so also the race for various elective positions in the 2023 elections are getting stronger. As Individuals are consulting so also political parties are evolving strategies to outplay one another.
In Ogun State, Professor David Olufemi Bamgbose of People’s Democratic Party has formerly declared his intention to run for for the governorship of the state, confidently believing if given the mandate by his party and members, he would defeat Prince Dapo Abiodun come 2023.
Making his declaration today at the hall of Nigerian Union of Journalists, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, Professor Bamgbose said records have shown that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were not living up to the expectation of the people of the state as a result of which the people were eager to end their administration and vote in a more credible one, and leader who would attend to their yearnings and aspiration.
Bamgbose stated unequivocally that, if not for the intraparty wrangling that existed in their party, People’s Democratic Party during the last election, the people would have given their votes to PDP, because according to him, they are tested and trusted. They have distinctively known how resourceful the Governor under the umbrella of PDP, Otunba Gbenga Daniel performed. He ran a people oriented administration which provided the people dividends of democracy.
“The state of things is our state is worrisome and disturbing. Our beloved state was known for excellence in Education leading other states in the Nigeria nation with regular and specialised tertiary institutions. Our state in the past recorded many first in Education, but today, what we have in our schools are cultism and hooliganism and violence, a situation that we have never seen in the state. We must arrest this ugly trends in our state.
Security and state of peace of our state is at its lowest ebb. Our dear state has always been peaceful and serene, conducive for learning, investment, hospitality and accommodating. The current administration have not pro actively guarded the security of the state. They have left security issues rather late before reacting. The incessant massacre of our people in Yewaland is really devastating. It must be said that insecurity has been a high level of national problem under the APC.
It is indeed disappointing that, with the resources available to the state Governor as the Chief Security Officer of the state, the level of kidnapping, violence, ritual killing, murders, Herdsmen/farmers clashes is unprecedented in the history of our state. This must be tacked with utmost sense of responsibility.
The government has done some lofty projects but they have left the fundamental responsibility as enshrined in our constitution such I e the primary reason of government is the security and welfare of the citizen, these are the reasons why I, Professor David Olufemi Bamgbose is rising up to the occasion in this crucial period of our dear state”.
He said his aspiration represented a new way of doing things because he has been living and daily working in the state unlike many of the past and present leaders in the state who, though indigenes but never lived or had their investment in the state who only returned home for politics. “The effect of this is that such Governor will have larger percentage of his appointees from people who are not residing in the state. This is the reason for the disconnect from the government and the governed”, Bamgbose stressed.
Bamgbose promised to represent the major shift, saying that he has been doing his businesses in the state for over decades. “We founded a higher institution in that that have been trained over Twenty Thousand (20,000) of our citizens in the state. We have done this at affordable cost and scholarship to the people”.
He added that, while building projects, when elected as the Governor of the state he would give attention to human development and welfare, because his administration would represent transition of power
