A cursory look at the Ogun State capital, Abeokuta, one would be accosted by the efforts of the State Government at creating an enabling environment through provisions of well constructed drainages, walkways, road medians, streetlights and a host of other good infrastructural amenities.
However, the carefree attitude of some road users who dispose wastes across these facilities to the extent that many drainages (gutters) in local parlance are being over flooded with waste plastics, nylons and other none easily degradable materials leaving the efforts of the government, towards its people, almost unappreciated and disregarded.
To this end, the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command, Abeokuta, Mr. Kolawole Taiwo has decided to set a roadmap for the cleansing of the wastes without causing much faceoff between the environmental officers and the people.
This was contained in a release today signed by Dyke Ogbonnaya
State Public Relations Officer for the State Commandant.
According to Taiwo, “The programme is going to be almost effortless as points where these materials would be dropped at a possible return of rewards for each show of citizenship and patriotism would be designated and allotted across the three senatorial districts in the State” he added.
He also added that an interface between the Ogun State Ministry of Environment, Ogun State Waste Management Agency (OGWAMA) amongst others would be set in motion to fast track this laudable ideas aimed at a better people, a serene environment and a culture of infrastructural maintenance amongst our people across homes, villages, communities, towns and our metropolitan cities.
The State Commandant also used the medium to caution all road users, passersby and every citizen of the State to ensure that they participate fully in the development of the State by helping to maintain the infrastructure provided by the State Government.
While appreciating the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun (MFR) and his team for the great and giant strides at improving the lots of all law abiding citizens and inhabitants of the Gateway State, Commandant Taiwo also appealed to the State Government on the need for more Hilux Vehicles to improve the operational capacities of the command as this would further enhance its intelligence, surveillance and strategic contributions to the security challenges in the State alongside the efforts of other sister security agencies.
“The two most important demands of the people from the government is welfare and security and to our utmost best as a command and as a team of well trained professionals, we would continue to offer our best at all times in terms of security while we are also assured of the State Government’s efforts at improving the welfare of the people of the State as it were” he intoned.
